Today's news: Witch trials, Picasso edited and what looks good at Edinburgh...

CultureCritic | 10.August.2012 | 16:41
It's festival time (in Edinburgh that is). Here's two very different plays worth checking out in the Scottish capital this month; Ariane Mnouchkine's epic seafaring adventure Les Naufragés du Fol Espoir (Aurores) and a defiantly successful fusion of science and theatre, After The Rainfall...

Speaking of Edinburgh, which of this year's hopefuls will be making the jump from 'bods to playwrights'? Here's a few who've succeeded in the past...

Unlikely collaboration of the day? Jeanette Winterson and Hammer Horror on her new novella about witch trials in 16th-century Lancashire...

Fans of director Fernando Meirelles are advised to stay at home and watch City of God on DVD rather than heading out to see his new film 360. 'A catastrophic cropper' says the Guardian...

Picasso and Modern British Art arrives in Edinburgh edited (and improved?)...

Watch Jens Lekman and his band peform 'I Know What Love Isn't' in his brand new video, which includes one of the best couplets from his excellent new record ('Hey do you want to go see a band / No I hate bands'). Oh Jens!

Sorry no reviews have been returned.
