The UK Film Council is to be axed as part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport's cost-cutting strategy. Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt won't be making any new fans as the organisation, which was founded in 2000, is abolished with the intention of redistributing funds. There is instead talk of establishing ‘a direct and less bureaucratic relationship with the British Film Institute.' 19 people have died and 340 have been injured after a stampede at the Love Parade festival in Duisberg, Germany. The dance music festival was being held for the first time at a former train station in the city. 1.4 million people are estimated to have attended and many did not know about the tragedy until after the festival, which went ahead as planned to prevent further panic. Henri Matisse is about to be the subject of a prestigious, posthumous exhibition as the Vatican prepares to show his work in Rome. It's part of their plan to boost their contemporary art collection's profile and will be hosted at The Vatican Museums. The show will feature works donated by Matisse's son Pierre in 1980, which have never been displayed before. They include Stations of the Cross - three 50-foot-tall preparatory sketches for a stained glass window composition, depicting the tree of life, the Virgin Mary and Jesus...
