Humpday
Released: 18/12/2009
Released in key cities
When two alpha-male college friends meet up after ten years apart, a drunken dare results in an attempt to make a porn movie together – but not a gay one, of course. Puerile? Perhaps, but it’s also a genuinely funny and suitably offbeat film that explores the boundaries between male heterosexuality, friendship and, er, shagging.

Variety“a visually mangy but frequently hilarious low-budgeter...” Although its subject matter and slapdash look will limit it to indie-friendly auds, Lynn Shelton's vibrant third feature could actually prove to be a fun date-night attraction with edge-seeking young viewers of all persuasions...
.
The Telegraph“Honest and hilarious...” The funniest idea in Lynn Shelton’s bracing, superbly-acted low-budget comedy is how this now-or-never challenge becomes a clinching test of machismo...
.
The Independent“The man hug will never feel quite the same again...” Forget the buddy movie and the "bromance", this wryly provocative comedy takes man-love to a place of palm-sweating uncertainty...
.
The Times“Might just be one of the funniest films of the year...” The film is entirely improvised, under the taut direction of the rising indie star Lynn Shelton. It is smarter and wittier than any scripted comedy in the cinema right now...
.
Guardian“A mumblecore bromance with a bizarre high concept...” The ending of the movie is an awful let-down, which is a shame: the film had been weirdly involving and Alycia Delmore is good as Ben's outraged wife...
.
Channel4 Film“An uncomfortably accurate probing of the male psyche...” You'll certainly never look at your best friend in the same way again. More surprisingly, it offers a fascinating exploration of the secrets and lies underneath an apparently comfortable marital relationship that would make even Mike Leigh proud...
.
Total Film “It’s not gay – it’s “beyond gay”...” Shooting raw and loose without a script, director Lynn Shelton and her game cast confidently plot an intriguing voyage of discovery through the male psyche. It feels like the movie Hollywood wouldn’t have the balls to make...
.
Time Out film“Shelton’s sardonic eye for the rituals of masculine bonding is unerring..” What if we took the laidback, stunted heroes of a Judd Apatow comedy and stranded them in the too-cool-for-school environs of a zero-budget mumblecore romance? What lifts ‘Humpday’ above macho junk like ‘The Hangover’ is its all-inclusive war
.
Little White Lies“One of the year’s must-see US indies...” On paper a cross between boorish frat boy comedy and a Judd Apatow wet dream, Humpday is actually an intelligent, perceptive and gently comic look at the boundaries of sexual identity and how fluid or rigid those boundaries might be...
.
Empire“A magnificent indie of the choicest cut...” What starts like You, Me And Dupree with a higher IQ gets funnier and more brilliant, with a surprising lack of vulgarity and remarkable realism as writer-director Lynn Shelton goes where the buddy picture has never before dared to tread...
