Moon
Released: 16/07/2009
Released in key cities
An astronaut’s paranoia may prove to be justified in this film by Duncan Jones (son of David Bowie), starring Sam Rockwell and the voice of Kevin Spacey. A sci-fi that doesn’t depend on CGI, made by a director who’s chosen not to trade on his superstar father’s name. How refreshing.

Guardian“This smart little picture is a very serviceable launch pad...” Two years ago, Danny Boyle released his Conradian deep-space nightmare Sunshine, and now we have Moon, a heartfelt, if self-consciously derivative drama of human loneliness, which alludes to pretty much all of those classic films mentioned above...
.
The Times“Isolation, despair and the inability to connect...” With its measured pacing, melancholy tone and eye for prosaic details, Moon is very different from the glossy sci-fi blockbuster — and far more satisfying...
.
The Independent“Moon is one of the most original sci-fi films in years...” It's not that the special effects are anything spectacular (the story doesn't require it), it's just that creating a credible-looking Moon setting for next-to-nothing is an achievement as ambitious as the script itself...
.
The Telegraph“Crisp and unpredictable...” There’s some excellent model work for the gray lunar exteriors - and taste in composers (Clint Mansell, lending the kind of eerie minimalist score no one does better) all bode very well. And for Rockwell it is close to a triumph...
.
Channel4 Film“Moon is one or two plot twists away from being a classic...” Moon could do with a heftier dose of weird, but the disciplined storytelling and direction bodes well for director Duncan Jones whose father also, of course, launched himself with a space oddity...
.
Uncut“Award-winning indie sci-fi values ideas over effects, by Bowie's son...” Jones is a uniquely exciting prospect, whose cerebral, creepy and riveting Moon carves out his own elevated flight path...
.
National Post“A singular, organized and original vision...” If this creepy notion piques your interest, you may well enjoy a trip to the Moon. Ask yourself first, however, on which side of the 2001 divide you sit...
.
Little White Lies“Here is a true space oddity...” Hollywood has seeped in through the airlock, but this is a defiantly British film. It’s one we can be proud of – in moderation...
.
Total Film “Bowie Jr makes a freaky moon-age daydream…” Fans of speculative and conceptual sci-fi and classic storytelling should take this trip to identity’s dark side. The direction is elegant, the acting impeccable. Take the trip...
.
New York Times Movies“The smallness of this movie is decidedly a virtue...” The film’s ideas are interesting, but don’t feel entirely worked out, and Mr. Rockwell’s intriguingly strange performance is left suspended, without the context that would give Sam’s plight its full emotional and philosophical impact...
