My Week With Marilyn
Released: 25/11/2011
General release
Recounts the true story of how, in 1956, British writer Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne) sidled his way into a brief relationship with Marilyn Monroe (Michelle Williams). If Williams seems suspiciously skinny for the part, her performance gives Kenneth Branagh's uncanny turn as Sir Laurence Olivier a run for its money.

Radio Times“The tone of the film is light, bordering on fluffy...” It oozes with romance, too, but most of all it's delightfully evocative of a bygone era of film-making...
.
this is london“Amounts to no more than a big tease...” My Week with Marilyn is pitched directly at the audience that loved The King's Speech but, though it's charming enough, it won't hit the spot...
.
Guardian“Intensely enjoyable, entirely insubstantial...” It doesn't pretend to offer any great insight, but it offers a great deal of pleasure and fun, and an unpretentious homage to a terrible British movie that somehow, behind the scenes, generated very tender almost-love story...
.
The Independent“Michelle Williams manages to capture the Monroe mystique...” If My Week with Marilyn is a triumph for Williams, it is one that was achieved in collusion with the cinematographer Ben Smithard...
.
The Telegraph“The film falls disappointingly short on boop-boop-be-doo...” Williams is being touted for an Oscar for this, and she may well win one. But she’s done better work elsewhere, and so has everyone else...
.
Empire“An extended anecdote in which Kenneth Branagh steals the show...” At moments hilarious and others touching, it's a sweet, slight affair, more pretty pageant than pithy biographical drama. Expect awards nominations to stack up for Williams and Branagh...
.
Little White Lies“Once the tingle wears off, little food for thought...” Offers few insights beyond the idea that showbiz can be a rocky path, its romance and nostalgia are seductive. Watch to get a little dazzled yourself; then go rent Gentlemen Prefer Blondes...
.
Total Film “Witty, affecting and hugely entertaining...” A treat for film buffs that’s sure to be a heavy-hitter this awards season, Marilyn could end up earning its subject the Oscar she never won during her too-short life...
.
Time Out“Has more than a touch of sad wish fulfillment...” ‘My Week with Marilyn’ is a minor movie about a minor episode in the life of a major star, but it has enough sense of its own high camp not to take itself too seriously...
