Premium Rush
Released: 14/09/2012
General release
The first bike chase movie? It concludes a summer of Wiggo mania, but this is no track race, and rather more in debt to suicidal antics we've all seen on city streets. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a courier who ‘doesn't believe in brakes', carrying a package highly sought after by a dodgy cop. Gaming-style camerawork puts you at the centre of the action in a high-speed Manhattan ride.

The Telegraph“Low on kinetic energy...” File this one under “had potential”: Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s New York bicycle courier is chased across town by a mysterious man (Michael Shannon) hell-bent on intercepting a delivery...
.
The Observer“Joseph Gordon-Levitt is an immensely likable hero...” The writer-director keeps up a Tour-de-France speed and ferocity, uses yellow lines to indicate both the hero's route and the various strategies he can choose from in every fraught situation, and gives no one much time to think...
.
The Independent“Breaking Away is in no danger of losing its place...” ...as everyone's favourite bicycle movie. To be honest, no matter what head of speed Wilee gets up, bicycle chases just aren't that exciting, and David Koepp's juggling of present tense and flashbacks doesn't raise the pulse either...
.
Little White Lies“It’s all desperately rote and joyless...” In a happier time, Premium Rush would have been an '80s VHS classic starring John Candy and some fresh-faced brats sticking it to The Man...Here, we’re left with JGL vainly wise-cracking his way through a ludicrous script...
.
Guardian“A taut time-crunch movie with stand-out performances...” A very serviceable little bicycle-based thriller, and a kinetic crowd-pleaser possessed of all the honourable B-movie values: tautness and compactness, enough plot to keep you guessing and some impressive stunts and collisions...
.
Time Out film“Runs on adrenaline rather than plot...” Gordon-Levitt is terrific, two parts charm to one part cocky king of the road. And the action scenes hum, because they look real, performed by stuntmen riding real bikes on real streets...A blast...
.
Total Film “Like a two-wheeled half-'Speed': daft but fun...” It’s definitely the ‘other’ Gordon-Levitt film out this month, but this silly cycler whizzes by amiably. Star charm helps: JGL’s enjoyment in his job adds welcome levels of Levitt-y...
.
Empire“All plays like a cartoon...” A movie that while thin and silly, moves with such joyous speed that you almost want to throw your arms in the air and scream...
