The Hide
Released: 03/06/2009
ICA, London
The hide is a wooden shed in the Suffolk mudflat, where Roy the twitcher and a sinister character called Dave happen to meet and swap life life stories. An intense and weighty tone framed by a small-scale set make this thriller hugely compelling and something of a visual treat.

.
The Telegraph“Addictive stuff... ” The dialogue is wonderful – "They've absolutely devastated Newquay" bleats Macqueen in an indignant rant about surfers, and fans of obscure collective nouns ("a deceit of lapwings"?) are in for a treat...
.
Channel4 Film“A play adaptation that exceeds boundaries and defies expectations... ” The characters and deadpan dialogue make it feel, at first, like a 'Fast Show' sketch, or a well-honed improvisation, with Alex MacQueen so exact in his role as fusty, uptight bird twitcher Roy Tunt that he plays out every cliche of the type...
