Ana Mendieta - Silueta and Silence
Opens: 19/02/2010 Closes: 20/03/2010
Alison Jacques Gallery, London
Cuban émigré Mendieta’s roots lay in 1970s feminism. Her indexical body works achieve that elusive balance between ego-flexing, universal profundity and humour, typically drawing on folk ritual. Her dramatic death at 36 often overshadows her work. This show aims to redress her underrepresentation in Britain.
