Flight and the Artistic Imagination

Opens: 29/06/2012 Closes: 30/09/2012 Compton Verney, Warwickshire

Us humans have always been fascinated by aviation. This exhibition tracks that preoccupation as our ability to fly has morphed from an unattainable dream to an everyday reality. With works by artists from Da Vinci to Nash, it shows how we've fallen from and conquered the skies, and offers a truly varied and rather unique path through the last five centuries.

Guardian“The threat was always part of the thrill...” The exhibition begins ominously with Icarus, including a ravishing paper cut by Matisse, and ends with Downed, a blood-red crashed fighter plane made from women's jumpers...
