From Paris: A Taste for Impressionism, Paintings from the Clark
Opens: 07/07/2012 Closes: 23/09/2012
Royal Academy, London
The Sterling and Francis Clark Art Institute has been the home to one of the world's most impressive painting collections for decades. This year some of its finest works hit the road, a bonus for us as the institute is in Massachusetts. In London as part of the tour are more than 70 Manets, Monets, Renoirs, and other highlights of 19th-century French art.

The Arts Desk“Both exuberant and controlled, authoritatively improvised...” These technically accomplished but ridiculous compositions point up the technical innovations and freshly imaginative vision and intellect of the impressionists. Far from being déjà vu, it turns out that they still have more to show us...
.
Financial Times“A highlight among London exhibitions this summer...” Their vision lives on intensely here; how many of today’s collectors, one wonders, will leave as distinctive a legacy...?
.
The Telegraph“Essentially conservative - but remarkably adventurous...” If ever a show lit up a dreary summer, From Paris: a Taste for Impressionism is it. The Clarks had a knack for buying pictures that were both decorative and painted at pivotal moments in the artist’s career...
.
The Independent“Both an amalgam of artworks and an artwork itself...” Any collection is more than the sum of its parts. Sterling and Francine Clark's is a portrait of the couple themselves, of a moment in the history of taste, and collecting in the history of art...
.
The Observer“By far the best...” Clark is that rare American collector: independent, retiring, unaffectedly philanthropic, the kind who gives taste a good name...
