Picasso: The Mediterranean Years (1945-1962)

Opens: 04/06/2010 Closes: 28/08/2010 Gagosian Britannia Street, London

Jointly curated by the artist's biographer and his grandson, this exhibition explores a provocative and intensely productive era of Picasso's life - the post-war years he spent in the south of France. It includes rarely seen works owned by the artist's family, and is a special show not to be missed.

this is london“A wealth of pleasure..” With little hesitation I dare describe it as the most exciting and enjoyable exhibition of the summer, aesthetically challenging and satisfying in equal measure.

The Independent“It's a Picasso taxonomist's delight” This is a portrait of Picasso in the post-war years. Post Paris. Post austerity. Re-entering his own birthright beside the Mediterranean Sea (he was born in Malaga) in the south of France. Basking in the sunny warmth of his acclaim and success.

The Telegraph“We are having a Picasso moment.” This is a brilliantly mounted, gloriously rich and idiosyncratic exhibition that acts both as a wonderful complement and challenge to the Liverpool show and an unmissable experience in its own right.

Guardian“Overwhelmingly beautiful...” This show gives us Picasso the hedonist, who in his art and in his love affairs felt unconstrained by any rules except his own.
