Currently recruiting: Paid editorial internship

Three month duration, to start February 2014

The successful applicant will have a broad and passionate interest in the arts and arts journalism. They will come equipped with excellent language, writing and basic editing skills and be able to research and present both a broad spectrum of information and specific facts and details. Above all else, they will be enthusiastic and hungry to learn.

Previous experience in online publishing is an advantage, but not essential. Applicants with a strong interest in a specific area of the arts are also encouraged to apply.

Day-to-day tasks include, research, copywriting, website maintenance and driving content ideas for CultureCritic, both across its listings and broader editorial sections. Assistance will also be required on projects for Cultureshock Media, which span magazine and book publishing.

In return, CultureCritic will provide an educative internship within a friendly team that offers the opportunity to advance relevant skills and make useful contacts in the industry.

Currently recruiting: Front-end Engineer and UX aficionado

Cultureshock Media are looking for a talented Front-end Engineer to help continue to deliver outstanding results for our fantastic clients. We're after a digital native who is up-to-date with the latest digital trends, social tools and technologies and is able to work with our Digital team and Design Studio to develop wireframes and interactive designs that turn a vision or proposal into an exciting new reality.

You should be genuinely interested in delivering the highest quality products and services from apps to platforms to online marketing solutions, personalisation and social interaction. We believe in developing long-term client relationships and we employ people who are always willing to go the extra mile to find the right solution for each project we work on.

There'll be plenty of opportunity for you to be creative whilst working on websites and apps for our clients in collaboration with our Design Studio and external partners.

In addition, we'd like you to feed into new business pitches, advising on and defining technical scope. We expect you to be routinely trend-spotting new technologies, tools and opportunities for research and proposing new ideas for collaborative new ventures.

We are looking for someone with these skills: 

  • Proficient in JavaScript
  • At the forefront of web-standards, in order to write future-proof HTML & CSS
  • Practice responsive design as a workflow, from visuals to implementation
  • Create experiences for humans, and the spectrum of devices they use Write clean, DRY code, with a focus on maintainability, modularity and reusability
  • Think a lot about progressive enhancement and performance
  • Have knowledge of HCI, usability and accessibility
  • Have an understanding of visual design theory, notably typography and layout
  • Be effective in asset production and management
  • Have experience with CSS pre-processors (LESS/SASS)
  • Integrate automation and build-processes into your workflow
