Win a copy of Underwood: Stories In Sound Win a copy of Underwood: Stories In Sound
Closing date: 17/08/2010

Win one of three copies of Underwood: Stories In Sound. Featured on the first vinyl record are Toby Litt and Clare Wigfall.

Launched in May 2010, Underwood proudly presents the first record of short stories!

Underwood is a twice-yearly publication produced as a vinyl LP featuring two writers. The journal appears in May and November each year and is a limited edition. Born out of a love for short stories and vinyl records, Underwood works with writers to produce a unique recording.

In an increasingly digital age Underwood looks to preserve the short story. Records celebrate the unique quality of short stories by allowing listeners time to retreat from their computers and iPods to experience an intimacy with writers and their work.

The Hare by Toby Litt features an adventure in the Welsh countryside and a chase in the British library. It is an extraordinary meditation on how memories haunt us.

Along Birdcage Walk by Clare Wigfall is a love story set in St James Park of the seventeenth century, where an exhibition of exotic birds provoke a mysterious change in the characters.

The record is printed on 12" gatefold vinyl with artwork by Jordan Crane. If you are not one of the lucky winners, copies of the record can be bought from the website: www.underwoodstories.com

Win a signed copy of Afro Celt Sound System new album ‘Capture’ Win a signed copy of Afro Celt Sound System new album ‘Capture’

Win a signed copy of Afro Celt Sound System new album ‘Capture’

Afro Celt Sound System will be releasing Capture, a career-spanning double CD, released by Real World Records on the 6th of September 2010.

Cherry-picked from the collective's five acclaimed studio albums, the 25 tracks are divided into songs (Verse) and instrumentals (Chorus). The songs are beautifully re-mastered to lend the sound a new warmth and allow the dynamics to emerge as originally intended.

The album contains their collaborations with Sinead O'Connor, Peter Gabriel, Robert Plant, Dorothee Munyaneza and more.  It also includes tracks featured on soundtracks including Gangs Of New York and Hotel Rwanda.

Afro Celt Sound System were the perfect storm: a phenomenon whose confluence of elements swept you away on a journey of light and shade, delicacy and power. When they added diverse new touches – Indian bhangra, Arabic influences, dub reggae, more – they did so seamlessly, in ways that only enhanced their sound and emphasised their openness. A supergroup whose line-up expanded and evolved around four core members (Simon Emmerson, James McNally, Iarla O’Lionaird, Martin Russell), the Afro Celt’s pan-global sound redefined dance music and stumped music critics. They remain defiantly, enigmatically uncategorisable.
