Win a copy of Yasmin Levy's new album "Sentir"

Closing date: 25/02/2010
Yasmin Levy, three times BBC World Music nominee, sings in Ladino - a near extinct Judeo-Spanish language spoken by Sephardic Jews who were expelled from the Iberian Peninsula in 1492 and subsequently settled across the Ottoman Empire.

Influenced by the work of her father, eminent composer, cantor and Ladino historian Itzhak Levy, Yasmin has worked to keep the rich 500 year old tradition alive through songs of longing, love and desperation - all delivered with a trademark closeness and poignancy.

“Aside from her stunning looks, Levy’s biggest asset is her voice, which is versatile, sensuous, and brimming with emotion” The Independent

In new album Sentir (World Village), produced by the acclaimed Javier Limón (who has worked previously with the likes of Portuguese fado star Mariza), Levy has found a vision that integrates these musical directions. With Sentir, Yasmin’s music truly becomes ‘of the world’. The album includes a three covers, including a sublime version of Leonard Cohen song Hallelujah, three new songs penned by Levy, five Ladino tracks and closes with traditional hymn Yigdal.

Yasmin's work earned her the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation Award for promoting cross-cultural dialogue between musicians from three cultures.

With the help of our friends at Town Hall Birmingham, one lucky winner has the chance to win "Sentir."
