La voix humaine
Opens: 14/02/2013 Closes: 22/03/2013
UK tour
Britain’s most famous soprano Lesley Garrett returns to the stage after six years away in this tragic Francis Poulenc work, with a Jean Cocteau libretto (adapted from his own 1930 play). At just 40 minutes long, it isn’t your standard opera fare. Expect tears and desperation as we watch a one-sided telephone conversation in which a woman begs her lover not to leave.

.
The Stage“A bravura performance as the tragic Elle...” It is an emotionally searing work despite taking place within 40 minutes in a single dressing-room. Garrett gives a sublime performance - her acting skills, sharpened on the West End stage, to the fore...
.
Guardian“It felt in keeping with a woman trying to suppress rising hysteria...” It is possible Garrett wasn't acting at this point, but she is a very expressive performer and makes the anguish of being dumped over the course of a 40-minute phone conversation painfully clear...
