Boris - New Album
Released: 28/11/2011
Sargeant House
Japanese noise funsters Boris drop their third album in the last eight months. As always with this lot, it's quite a surprise. Renowned for their droney sludge, the band have drawn on the dominance of the Vocaloid (a song-generating tool) in Japanese chart music and produced a melodious pop album.

MTV“A uniquely Borisian beast...” An experimental group at heart, they’ve managed to startle by dabbling more and more in simple tunefulness...
.
Sputnik Music“One of the most interesting thing they’ve ever done...” Boris always bring the quirky and off-kilter in spades, and New Album exemplifies that fact, magnifying it to an obscene amount...
.
Spin“A windswept wormhole of house beats and sunshiney melodies...” A beaming ode to optimism and joy — an awesomely wild detour from the band who nicked their name (and sound) from a Melvins song...
.
The A.V. Club“A joyous celebration of sheer sensory overload...” Technically speaking, New Album isn’t a new album at all, but it does illuminate a strong, striking new direction for Boris—although it’s anyone’s guess where the fearlessly evolving group might leap next...
.
Pitchfork“The band struggle to write songs outside their area of expertise...” As pretty as it can be, New Album is another minor Boris album in a string of minor Boris albums...
