Crocodiles - Sleep Forever
Released: 13/09/2010
Fat Possum
These San Diego boys sure do like a bit of canonical English shoegaze and dream pop. Donning the essential shades, leather jackets and boots, they draw upon The Jesus and Mary Chain’s Darklands and early Spiritualized to create a patchwork of fuzzed-up post-punk noise and euphoric melodies.

Drowned In Sound“Arrogant self-indulgence...” How infuriating it is to realise that Crocodiles have songs that would do very well, trimmed of their five-plus-minute-fat and condensed into less-than-three-minute reverb and keyboard lead hazes...
.
Pitchfork“Crocodiles bring the tunes...” A muggy churn that builds on Echo and company's own Crocodiles while working in more krautrock palpitations and a druggy Madchester-like bustle. It's brasher, fuller, woolier, with little shards of sound scraping against the speakers...
.
allmusic“Honing in on melodies...” With Simian Mobile Disco's James Ford behind the boards, the duo’s music is glossier and more digitized — yet, Ford manages to retain the sense of grit that put them on the noise pop map...
.
NME“The creeping creatures of the noir pop underworld get their wings...” If San Diego’s Crocodiles sound flawless on paper, they damn well prove it on record: this second album flies in the face of their heroes’ druggy mumblings by roaring monumental pop tunes from beneath the sonic silt...
.
MusicOMH“Crowd-pleasing rock star quality...” Crocodiles are a talented rock band with a strong sense of songwriting, for sure, but they're also very happy to be playing music, and that joy shines through any amount of fuzz Sleep Forever might throw at you...
