Bernard Rose directs this modern look at Tolstoy's banned novella, illustrating the author's extreme view of sexuality. Taking its title and tempo from Beethoven's violin and piano sonata, the story centres on the mental breakdown of a husband who suspects his pianist wife is falling for a fellow musician.

To celebrate Iniva's 15th year and to complement its current exhibition Progress Reports: art in an era of diversity we are giving away three copies of the Iniva publication Changing States: Contemporary Art and Ideas in an Era of Globalisation, edited by Gilane Tawadros. Seen through the artistic programming by Iniva from its first decade, the book examines the most pressing issues and themes that have driven and informed international contemporary art in recent years. It includes articles, interviews, projects and artists' pages by leading cultural theorists and writers such as Jean Fisher, Coco Fusco, Deborah Levy, Stuart Hall, Eddie Chambers, David A Bailey, Hans Ulrich Obrist and Gavin Jantjes.

Progress Reports: art in an era of diversity at Rivington Place is a multi-voiced exhibition of work selected by curators, artists and filmmakers. Painting, sculpture, graphics and film reflect the times we live in and changes to the social and cultural landscape since Iniva was founded 15 years ago. 16 artists show work in this exhibition which explores interpretations of ‘cultural diversity'. Artists include: Oreet Ashery and Larissa Sansour, Sanford Biggers, Michelle Citron, Julie Dash, Leah Gilliam, Amanda Holiday, Naomi Kashiwagi, Radhika Khimji, Tracey Moffatt, Harold Offeh, Hetain Patel, Lisa Reihana, John Sealey, Tejal Shah, Kara Walker.

Award-winning film No One Knows About Persian Cats opens on 26th March 2010 at venues including the Curzon Soho, Ritzy Brixton, Belmont Picturehouse Aberdeen, Little Theatre Bath, Bristol Watershed, Showroom Sheffield, Irish Film Institute and the Lighthouse Dublin.

The acclaimed fifth feature film from Bahman Ghobadi, the director of Half Moon and Turtles Can Fly opened the Certain Regard strand of the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. It combines musical performances with an edgy underground narrative and follows Iranian musicians Negar (Negar Shaghagi) and Ashkan (Ashkan Koshanejad) as they look for band members to play at a London concert plus the visa that allows them to leave totalitarian Iran to do so.

No One Knows About Persian Cats features music from a wide range of genres including Iranian rap, jazz and electric blues. Executive produced by imprisoned Iranian-American journalist Roxana Saberi the film includes performances in English and Farsi.
