Juliet and Her Romeo
Opens: 10/03/2010 Closes: 24/04/2010
Bristol Old Vic
Forget all the young-whippersnapper star-crossed lovers out there, here is a couple who have truly earned their stripes. In their 80s and very much in love, Romeo and Juliet must deal with their dissenting kids. This production is the result of 12 years of adaptation by Tom Morris and Sean O’Connor.

Whatsonstage.com“The show’s not radical enough to be a milestone...” 76-year-old Sian Phillips is transcendent as Juliet, a game old sexy senior, while 66-year-old Michael Byrne struts his stuff as Romeo with a fading twinkle and what’s left of a mutilated text...
.
Guardian“Odd and intriguing, but runs out of intellectual steam before the end...” If any one performance justifies the experiment, it is Siân Phillips's remarkable Juliet. Like Judi Dench, she defies time and knows how to weight every syllable to communicate meaning...
.
The Times“This is a production where the parts are better than the whole...” The pleasure of watching Siân Phillips and Michael Byrne persuade us of the reality of a December love is enormous...
.
The Independent“Fails to convince...” Phillips conjures a beautiful rapport with the audience that is enhanced by Morris's visually striking production that gives back to the delightful horseshoe-shaped Bristol Old Vic its original forestage...
.
The Telegraph“The production is undoubtedly timely...” This production reinvigorates an over-familiar play with intelligence, imagination and rare tenderness...
