Arcola Theatre, London
Caryl Churchill’s seminal play about one of Britain’s bloodiest decades is revived at the Arcola Theatre. It’s 1649, the King has been killed by his own soldiers and the country is being pulled asunder in the pursuit of 'heaven on earth'. A group of ordinary people hold onto the hope that they will see a divine light.

.
Financial Times“Churchill shows us an age of unbelievable fluidity in the social order...” The play reminds us sombrely that such moments of potential pass: they either come to nothing in the first place, or the old order is soon restored.
