The Royal Court Theatre
For artistic director Dominic Cooke’s penultimate season, the Royal Court is going for the wow factor. Cooke calls this show, written by one of the UK’s top playwrights, Caryl Churchill, ‘a cultural event’, and it certainly sounds mysterious. Over a hundred characters comprise the fast-paced, conceptual piece, under the direction of James Macdonald.

The Independent“Uneven but highly stimulating...” Breathtakingly well-directed by James Macdonald, it unfolds in fifty-seven black-out sketches in which a superlatively versatile sixteen-strong cast play over a hundred non-recurring characters...
.
The Stage“Caryl Churchill’s new play is one of fragments...” There are moments when the play - with its reluctance to linger for longer than a few minutes on any one scene - feels a bit fidgety, but the overall effect is hypnotic...
.
Whatsonstage.com“It breaks the mould...” A myriad of short scenes, a plethora of ideas, a large cast, a script of unallocated lines (with an appendix of "random" alternatives), a comedy of communication, a drama of depression, a modern manual of sex, memory and schizophrenia.
.
Guardian“A dazzling production....” One of the many points made by this exhilarating theatrical kaleidoscope is that we live in a world where information bombardment is in danger of leading to atrophy of memory, erosion of privacy and decay of feeling.
.
The Arts Desk“A fast-moving but chilly panorama of life today...” Like a modernistic work of art, this is a minimalist evening, with the repetition of gestures being an integral part of its meaning. After a while, the novelty wears a bit thin, and it is easier to respect than to enjoy.
.
The Huffington Post“A slick stream of consciousness...” Playwright Caryl Churchill embraces this speed – in the fast-moving traffic of life there are still quiet moments of beauty, heart wrenching sorrow, joy, and profound epiphanies.
