You Me Bum Bum Train

Opens: 15/08/2012 Closes: 19/09/2012 Stratford
By all reports this show is as ludicrous as its title suggests, but that hasn't put anyone off - this year's appearance of the famous ‘train' is sold out, despite a embargo on reviews revealing specifics. Started in 2004, and born from a club night where punters were pushed around in wheelchairs, it turns the actor/audience divide inside out. Participatory theatre at its best? Evening Standard“Each tableau is immaculately staged...” I worry that it is conceived above all to put the audience at their unease, to cause maximum discomfiture, with the result that it leaves us physically shaken rather than emotionally stirred. I, for one, expect more from theatre than that...

Time Out“Eye-opening, magical, memorable and utterly unique...” Sure, the surface is all exhilaration and adventure, but beneath that, the show affords an extraordinary chance to experience life as someone else and encounter situations you never imagined you'd face...

The Stage“Involves hundreds of performers and an audience of one...” There’s definitely something surreal about the experience for the novice spectator, yet being plunged headlong into a series of roles ranging from the ordinary to the outlandish is strangely empowering and self-revelatory too...

The Telegraph“An exhilarating ride of a theatre piece...” There’s an incredible attention to detail in the sets, which are completely transporting. The whole show, lasting only 40 minutes, feels like a wonderful dream, where you might have to face your fears and live out your fantasies...
